Deadline day

I have finally finished all of my assignments and created all of my packages that I have needed to be made. The last things I had to do were to finish off my Evaluation and then arrange my folder in the correct order for marking. After I had arranged my folder, I handed everything in along with all of the packages and T-Shirts that I had made within this Unit.

Friday's lesson

On the Friday's lesson I have finally finished my packages and they are ready to be printed off, during this lesson I have to cut and then fold the final packages ready for Monday's lesson where people get to see what I have created and get to comment on what it looks like by using the comment sheet that I have made.

Final Shoebox & Bag Design

I have now finished the design of my shoebox and will soon print it out on card to fully fold into the final shoe box. The sort of style I went with the shoebox was a simple one but still things added to it, on the sides of the shoebox I have added a lot of the company logos going in a diagonal and repeating along the whole side. On the top of the box I have added just the companies name in the same font that is on the logo, on the bottom I have put on a barcode with shoe information (size, name, shoe code etc.) The whole shoebox is coloured blue for SoleMan and I have made it so SoleWoman's box is pink.

I have also finished designing my bags for the company, the bag is also a really simple design, blue for SoleMan and pink for SoleWoman to match with the genders and shoeboxes. At the bottom of the box I have added the company logo.

Finished logo design

I have now finished my design for my logo, I first drew it out on napkin sketches and then I drew it out on the computer using a graphics tablet on Photoshop.

4/5/2012

I have printed my 3D packaging out, to see what it will look like fully made. I have also done it to see which faces are the right ones where I can print my design on to.

Company Pitch

Company Pitch
I think my pitch went really well, when I first started I was really nervous but as I got further into the pitch I got more convident with myself and got my point across clearly and precisely.

I was fairly happy with the way I presented my pitch but I think I could have been more prepared for it and get ready for the questions that followed.

From doing the pitch I gained more confidence and gained more knowledge about preparing for a presentation.

20th March 2012

20th March 2012
We have been looking at different ways of advertising products, branding products, logo's and how companies sell their products to their target audience. We have watch two television programs that shows us how the companies were being advertised and how much money they were making from people buying their products. We also have learnt about three new terms related to companies and brands, Brand Loyalty, Brand Association and Brand Recognition.

I am now thinking of three different companies to create and then choose one of the three to actually have as my own company, once I have the company I will be designing all of the aspects of the company.

We also played the logo board game as a group, which was showing how well we knew different companies and brands. We also did some handouts which had logos printed on them with parts of them blanked out so we had to guess what they were.

31st March 2012
I have now chosen the company that I will be making, the companies name will be SoleMan for the men section and SoleWoman for the female section. I also have the three products that I will be designing for my company and I also have an idea for my logo design. During the Reading Week I will have to create a pitch for my company to present to three other students, and I have also been asked to complete a questionnaire to give to my fellow students to complete after my pitch. I also need to finalise my napkin sketches for my company logos.

Printing Techniques cont.

Continuing from the last blog, I have now finished cutting out my acetate picture of Pacman. After I had finished cutting it out, I then had to go on and create my T-Shirt design.

I have now finished my design and need to print it onto magic touch paper ready for my T-Shirt.

My own infographic!!

On the 30th of January, I started gathering research of different printing techniques in the categories, Hand Techniques, Mechanical Techniques and Digital Techniques. In each category there was a list of techniques that I had to research and find out what it was and how it was used. The list of the techniques are below:

Hand Techniques:
  • Etching
  • Intaglio
  • Linocut
  • Screen Print
  • Woodcut
  • Lithography
Mechanical Techniques:
  • Letter Press
  • Gravure
  • Screen Process
Digital Techniques:
  • Photocopying
  • Laser Printing
  • Inkjet Printing
  • Desktop Publishing (DTP)
  • Digital Screen Printing
On the 2nd of February I had finished all of my research for the techniques, I found gathering some of the research a little difficult to understand because some was more or less the same technique, but just a little bit of differences between them. At the moment I am liking what I have found out and looking forward to making the infographic.

On the 3rd of February I started to create my infographic, it took me a while to decide on what I wanted it to look like, once I had a set idea for a design I started to create it, my idea was to make it look like it was hand written on a piece of paper. The infographic included a short paragraph about each different technique, and an image of what each one looks like, I decided to make all the images black and white to make it look it had been drawn on the paper in pencil but not coloured in.

On the 6th of February I had more or less finished my whole infographic, I had just to add the finishing touches towards it, which was pretty much arranging everything and making sure they were all in-line and the text matched where the lines on the paper were. After I had finished everything on the infographic I had to save it as a JPG which took some time because it was a large image, and then once it had saved upload it to Moodle.

On the 9th and 10th of February we had gone back into our groups where we made our group Infographic (Me, Katie, Jordan and Josh) and we had to look for different printing techniques and try out a few, the first thing we had to do was try find 5 embossed things around college between each member of our group, that meant we had to take 20 pictures. This task was different as we struggled to find embossed things around college, we found quite a few and then decided to look on the members of our group and then we found out final ones. The next task we had to was a sort of etching style, we had to colour in a piece of paper with Crayons and then scratch out a word or pattern of our choice into the coloured Crayons, I decided to write my name because I couldn't think of anything else to write. The next task we did was a stencil printing technique, we did the Banksy style, where it was black and white and we printed it onto Acetate we then had to cut out the black parts so we can create a stencil to paint over onto some paper or fabric. I didn't get to finish the Acetate one because we ran out of time an are going to finish it when we get back to college after Reading Week. The next task will be to design a T-Shirt and then print it onto Magic Touch paper, I did have an idea to a jigsaw of a jigsaw piece, but I struggled to recreate this idea onto Photoshop so now I am thinking of trying to make another idea.

Infographics

On Monday we got split into 3 groups of 5 but my group only had 4 members, the group was Katie, Josh, Jordan and me. Each group got given different categories on what to research, group one was given Market Research, group 2 was given Production Research and our group got gave Audience Research. Once we had been given our groups and category, we had to move into our groups and then research what each of these mean and then create a Model Map to represent our information.

After we had got all of our information we then had to create an infographic (which is information in a graphical form) with all the information from the Model Maps. On Thursday we then started to create our Infographic, we split up and each one did a category. I made the title with a lot of help from other members of our group, then I did a strap line to introduce the readers. After that I did the first category, after I had finished this category I let Katie do the next one, and then Josh did the one after that and then Jordan did the last one. At the end of the infographic we had some space left, so we though that we would add some humour and a bit of nostalgia and add a quote from Looney Tunes "Thats All Folks" in the same font, and we also added a picture of Porky Pig, underneath that we added all of our names.

Overall I think this task went really well as we work good as a team and got our work done without much trouble.

Research Techniques

The piece of work that we are doing right now is to research what Primary and Secondary Sources are, and also find out what Qualitative and Quantitative Research is, we also have to give examples for each one and like some advantages and disadvantages.

Research Techniques!

In today's lesson Jo had set all of our group a task to go out around college and research different things but using different techniques. The whole group all got split up into separate groups, and I went with Chris, Amy and Mollie, our group mainly used the computer to find our information out, we used Google to search for our answers. For the ones that we couldn't use Google we had to find them out ourselves, we had to find a Reference number for a book and we did this by asking the people behind the reception in the Learning Curve. We also had to find a number of definitions so we used a dictionary for this. Some other things we already knew from common knowledge or just peer to peer.

Initial Proposal

Initial Proposal

I understand what I need to do for Unit 18, 3 and 4.

For Unit 18, I will have to understand print-based media prodution techniques and technology, and to be able to develop idea's and originate designs for print-based media products. Also to be able to produce print-based media products and to be able to reflect upon own print-based media production work.

For Unit 3, I will have to understand the nature and purposes of research in the creative media industries, and be able to apply a range of research methods and techniques, and to be able to present the results of research.

For Unit 4, I will have to be able to originate, develop and research an idea for a media product, be able to pitch a proposal for a media product and be able to manage a production process to create a media product.
