On the 30th of January, I started gathering research of different printing techniques in the categories, Hand Techniques, Mechanical Techniques and Digital Techniques. In each category there was a list of techniques that I had to research and find out what it was and how it was used. The list of the techniques are below:
Hand Techniques:
- Etching
- Intaglio
- Linocut
- Screen Print
- Woodcut
- Lithography
Mechanical Techniques:
- Letter Press
- Gravure
- Screen Process
Digital Techniques:
- Photocopying
- Laser Printing
- Inkjet Printing
- Desktop Publishing (DTP)
- Digital Screen Printing
On the 2nd of February I had finished all of my research for the techniques, I found gathering some of the research a little difficult to understand because some was more or less the same technique, but just a little bit of differences between them. At the moment I am liking what I have found out and looking forward to making the infographic.
On the 3rd of February I started to create my infographic, it took me a while to decide on what I wanted it to look like, once I had a set idea for a design I started to create it, my idea was to make it look like it was hand written on a piece of paper. The infographic included a short paragraph about each different technique, and an image of what each one looks like, I decided to make all the images black and white to make it look it had been drawn on the paper in pencil but not coloured in.
On the 6th of February I had more or less finished my whole infographic, I had just to add the finishing touches towards it, which was pretty much arranging everything and making sure they were all in-line and the text matched where the lines on the paper were. After I had finished everything on the infographic I had to save it as a JPG which took some time because it was a large image, and then once it had saved upload it to Moodle.
On the 9th and 10th of February we had gone back into our groups where we made our group Infographic (Me, Katie, Jordan and Josh) and we had to look for different printing techniques and try out a few, the first thing we had to do was try find 5 embossed things around college between each member of our group, that meant we had to take 20 pictures. This task was different as we struggled to find embossed things around college, we found quite a few and then decided to look on the members of our group and then we found out final ones. The next task we had to was a sort of etching style, we had to colour in a piece of paper with Crayons and then scratch out a word or pattern of our choice into the coloured Crayons, I decided to write my name because I couldn't think of anything else to write. The next task we did was a stencil printing technique, we did the Banksy style, where it was black and white and we printed it onto Acetate we then had to cut out the black parts so we can create a stencil to paint over onto some paper or fabric. I didn't get to finish the Acetate one because we ran out of time an are going to finish it when we get back to college after Reading Week. The next task will be to design a T-Shirt and then print it onto Magic Touch paper, I did have an idea to a jigsaw of a jigsaw piece, but I struggled to recreate this idea onto Photoshop so now I am thinking of trying to make another idea.
